South Florida is under a heat risk warning today, with temperatures expected to reach the mid 90s. The heat index will make it feel like over 100 degrees for an extended period of time.
Heat Safety Precautions
Residents are advised to take breaks from being outdoors, stay hydrated, and wear protective clothing to avoid heat-related illnesses. Certain surfaces, such as sidewalks and asphalt, can feel much hotter than the air temperature, reaching up to 140 and 160 degrees, respectively.
A couple of seabreeze showers and storms are expected to develop in the area later today, but the chance of rain is very isolated. The tropics are currently quiet, but the area will see a little bit of Saharan dust by the end of the week, which could limit tropical development and enhance the heat.
