Heard County family pushes for renewed investigation into Natalie Jones’ 2020 death

Heard County, Ga. – The mother of Natalie Jones, a 27‑year‑old mother of two who vanished in July 2020, says investigators have ignored key evidence surrounding her daughter’s death. Jones was found deceased in her 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier on Roosterville Road, but the medical examiner could not determine a cause of death.

Family and podcast raise doubts

Elaine Gordon, Jones’ mother, told Fox News Digital that friction with detectives began early in the search. She recalled a detective accusing her of interfering while she pressed for answers. Gordon asked, “What did they expect me to do, sit at home and be quiet?” and demanded to know how anyone could be sure Jones left the lake house in Jackson’s Gap, Ala., where she was last seen.

The six‑part Audiochuck series “The Truth About Natalie” draws on case files, crime‑scene photos, and independent forensic analysis. Host Sean Kipe said the official overdose theory is hard to accept because Jones’ toxicology report was completely negative for drugs, and several pieces of evidence – her phone, shoes, belt, sunglasses and several teeth – were never recovered.

Unusual crime‑scene details

Photos show the driver’s seat reclined farther back than Jones, who stood 5’5”, would have allowed, and strands of her hair wedged in the door jamb. The trunk was found open, and a small bag that may have contained methamphetamine yielded no fingerprints. Investigators also noted missing teeth and the absence of personal items that should have been in the vehicle.

Cell‑phone data indicated scattered tower connections across Heard County after the night of July 4, with activity ceasing shortly after 5 a.m. on July 5, the same morning Jones failed to appear at her sister’s home to babysit her children.

Calls for a special grand jury

In 2021, family advocate Jennifer Peterson petitioned the Heard County Superior Court for a special grand jury, citing a former boyfriend as a person of interest. The district attorney closed the case in 2022, and by 2023 law‑enforcement officials stopped responding to Peterson’s inquiries.

Peterson and Kipe hope the renewed public attention will compel authorities to reopen the investigation. “My ultimate hope is to bring Natalie’s mother and children the closure they deserve after years of unanswered questions,” Kipe said.

Law‑enforcement response

Heard County Sheriff’s Office told Fox News Digital that investigators are still seeking leads and will follow up on any new information. The county DA’s Office has referred the matter to the West Georgia Judicial Circuit DA’s Office for comment.

As the podcast reaches a wider audience, Gordon wants listeners to know her daughter’s love for her boys, Trent and Isaac, and her plans to build a home and attend college before her untimely death.
