A scrap metal fire at Hartford Metal Solutions in Hartford is now under control after firefighters responded Friday morning, according to the Hartford Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to the scene at 295 Huyshope Ave. around 9:10 a.m. after receiving a report of a scrap metal fire. When they arrived, they found a working fire with heavy smoke in the area. The fire was quickly knocked down and brought under control, according to firefighters.
Firefighters are still operating at the scene as of 10:45 a.m. District Fire Chief Alvaro Cucuta noted that sometimes scrap yards can contain items that are not supposed to be there, which can ignite and cause different types of metals to catch fire. Cucuta explained that certain metals can be stubborn to put out, but with copious amounts of water, they were able to extinguish the fire.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported, and Hartford police are managing traffic while crews continue to work. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Hartford Fire Marshal’s Office.
