A Hardee’s sign has been installed at the Love’s Travel Stop currently under construction near Bar Nunn just off Interstate 25, signaling a possible return of the fast food chain to the Casper area.

Casper’s two Hardee’s locations closed without warning at the end of July, 2023, shortly after Boulder-based franchisee Summit Restaurant Holdings LLC filed for bankruptcy. At the time, Summit operated stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Kansas, Missouri, Montana and Wyoming. All of Wyoming’s Hardee’s locations were eventually closed.
According to industry publication Restaurant Dive, Hardee’s stores have been affected by numerous franchisee bankruptcies over the past few years, with a decline of nearly 270 stores since 2023. This year the company has reportedly been reopening dozens of restaurants in closed locations around the country.
County Commissioners signed off on plans for the new Love’s Travel Stop just north of Casper last year, allowing land-use requests for tall signage intended to be seen by Interstate travelers.
