The Cleveland Guardians sat Jose Ramirez for the opener of a three-game series against the New York Mets on Tuesday as the star third baseman deals with left wrist inflammation.
Ramirez, 33, informed the team after Sunday’s win over the Arizona Diamondbacks that he was experiencing soreness in the wrist that required surgery six weeks ago.
“It’s going to continue to be day to day for (Ramirez), as it has been up to this point,” Guardians manager Stephen Vogt said before Tuesday’s game. “I just can’t give him enough kudos for what he’s playing through to help us win ballgames.”
With Ramirez out of the lineup Tuesday, Gabriel Arias manned third base and Chase DeLauter served as designated hitter.
