Two officers with the Greer Police Department were fired last month after an internal audit uncovered months-long abuse of the city’s Flock Safety camera system. The audit found that now-former Cpl. Kareem Lynch, 28, had misused the system to track a subordinate with whom he had a previous relationship. Lynch allegedly entered incorrect and deceitful entries into Flock’s system to track the subordinate’s license plate.
Abuse of Power
Another officer, Sebastian Echeverry, 29, was also stripped of his law enforcement certification after it was determined he searched the tags of several citizens and covered his searches with deceitful and false entries. Echeverry’s misconduct spanned more than five months, from December 13, 2025, to May 25, 2026.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is reviewing allegations against at least one of the former officers. The Greer Police Department has offered no public acknowledgment of the scandal, which sources attribute to a culture of secrecy within the department.
The incident has raised concerns about the use of Flock cameras and the potential for abuse of power. The cameras use AI algorithms to capture large volumes of data from every vehicle and person caught in the crosshairs, which is then stored and accessible to law enforcement everywhere.
