The B&O Railroad Museum, located in the historic Mount Clare neighborhood of Baltimore, has unveiled its new name: the National Museum of Railroad History & Innovation. This change reflects the museum’s expanded focus on the national history and innovation of railroading.
A New Era for the Museum
The museum, which was first opened by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad company in 1953, aims to honor its roots as the birthplace of American railroading while also serving as a destination for visitors to learn about the role of trains across the country and throughout history.
The museum’s new Innovation Hall, set to open in January 2027, will be located on the top floor of the South Car Works building and will feature interactive exhibits about the present and future of railroading technology.
