The Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees has approved a $2.5 million allocation for the implementation of ZeroEyes, an artificial intelligence weapons detection system. This decision aims to enhance security across all campuses in the district.
Security Upgrades
Superintendent Burke Royster stated that the school district’s security department evaluated various brandish weapon detection systems over the last two years and found ZeroEyes to outperform all other systems in detection capabilities and bandwidth needs. The district will enter into a three-year contract with ZeroEyes, strategically installing the software into the district’s camera systems.
In addition to the security upgrades, the board also approved revisions to the district’s policy on school choice and student transfers, combining procedures for in-district and out-of-district student transfers into one comprehensive policy. Furthermore, the board authorized the $135,000 purchase of approximately 0.31 acres of property adjacent to Fountain Inn Elementary School, which will be used for the future conversion of the elementary school into a K-8 campus.
