The Greenville Village Board has approved a moratorium on data center construction projects. The one-year moratorium will allow staff to conduct more research on the centers and draft regulations that are in line with other municipalities.
Village Trustee Dean Culbertson stated that a data center could not run properly if one were to be built right now. Several Greenville residents have expressed opposition to data centers, but Village Administrator Travis Parish noted that banning them is not an option.
Greenville has not received any data center proposals as of now. The moratorium will give the village time to consider the potential impact of data centers on the community and develop regulations to address any concerns.
