Green Bay Police Support New Flock Safeguards

The Green Bay Police Department is supportive of new safeguards implemented by Flock Safety, the company behind the Flock cameras used by the department. The changes include reducing data retention from 30 days to seven days and requiring audit assistance and case codes for vehicle searches.

Changes to Flock Camera Data Retention

According to Green Bay Police Chief Chris Davis, the department will need to review its current practices to ensure compliance with the new restrictions. However, Davis noted that the department already requires officers to include a case number and specific reason for license plate searches, which aligns with Flock’s new mandates.

Davis views the Flock cameras as a valuable public safety tool that has yielded significant benefits. He emphasized the importance of balancing public safety with individual civil liberties, stating that he does not want to violate people’s rights any more than necessary.

Community Reaction to Flock Cameras

Not everyone in the community shares Davis’ enthusiasm for the Flock cameras. Lisa Sanderfoot, a local resident, expressed concerns that the cameras infringe upon individual freedoms without providing a corresponding increase in safety. Sanderfoot suggested that the funds spent on Flock cameras could be better allocated to community resources.
