Dozens of veterans from the Greater Cincinnati region boarded an Honor Flight at Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport Tuesday morning, embarking on a free, all‑expenses‑paid trip to the nation’s capital.

Veterans honored at iconic memorials

The flight’s itinerary included stops at the World War II Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, the Iwo Jima statue, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the United States Air Force Memorial and several other historic sites. Each stop offers a chance for seniors who served our country to pay respects to fallen comrades and reflect on the sacrifices that secured America’s freedoms.

Honor Flight, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing these experiences for veterans age 65 and older, covered all transportation, lodging and meals. This week’s group comprised roughly 90 veterans, many traveling with family members or guardians who accompanied them on the journey.

The aircraft touched down at CVG around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. A public welcome‑home ceremony was held on the third floor of the rental‑car area, just to the right of the ticketing counters, allowing friends, family and community members to greet the returning heroes.

Local volunteers and civic groups helped organize the ceremony, underscoring the region’s deep respect for those who served. Organizers emphasized that the Honor Flight experience not only honors the veterans but also strengthens community bonds, reminding younger generations of the values of service, sacrifice and patriotism.
