The Grand Lyric Theater, a 330-seat venue, has opened its doors in West Louisville’s Russell neighborhood, marking a significant investment in the area’s arts scene. Located on West Muhammad Ali Boulevard, the theater aims to provide regular programming, residencies, and opportunities for young artists to develop their talents.
A New Home for Arts and Education
The $3.4 million project is part of the redevelopment of the historic Old Walnut Street campus. According to Kevin E. Fields Sr., president and CEO of Louisville Central Community Centers, the goal is to use the theater as a hub for education and community engagement, while also bringing commerce and culture back to the area.
The theater’s first major residency will feature the Curtis Family C-NOTES, a San Francisco-based soul and funk family band. The first week of programming includes a Family Arts Camp, a VIP Gala, and a two-day Community Concert Series, all designed to help young people develop their skills and showcase their talents.
