Goshen Officer Hit by Vehicle

A Goshen Police officer is recovering from minor injuries after being struck by a vehicle during a late-night incident Saturday in Elkhart County. Authorities say the incident occurred during a response to a reported reckless vehicle gathering, and an investigation is now underway.

Incident Details

According to Goshen Police, officers were dispatched just after 11 p.m. to the 4500 block of Elkhart Road following reports of a “large reckless vehicle gathering” involving activity between the area and U.S. 20. When officers arrived at the scene, multiple vehicles reportedly left the area.

Authorities said the situation escalated as officers attempted to gain control of the scene and disperse the vehicles involved. Police said a Jeep failed to comply with officer commands to stop and struck a Goshen Police officer before leaving the area.

The officer sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover, according to officials. Following the incident, law enforcement briefly pursued the vehicle, but the chase was later called off. Officials said the pursuit did not continue for an extended period and was ultimately terminated by responding officers.

Dispatch confirmed that an arrest was made in connection with the incident, though authorities have not clarified whether the arrest is directly related to the vehicle that struck the officer or the broader gathering that prompted the response. No additional suspect details have been released at this time.

Law enforcement agencies are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the gathering, the vehicle involved in the officer-involved collision, and the subsequent arrest. Officials have not released information regarding potential charges or court proceedings as the investigation remains active.
