Goose Sells T-Shirts to Benefit Family

The band Goose is selling t-shirts to raise money for the family of a Niantic man who died after falling from a balcony at Madison Square Garden during the band’s concert Saturday night.

In an Instagram post, the Connecticut-based band said its “BIG LOVE” t-shirt is available for pre-order on its website and that all proceeds will benefit a GoFundMe created by 51-year-old Paul Kueker’s family.

Kueker, who is from Niantic, fell from the 300 level of Madison Square Garden during Goose’s concert. Police said he was at the concert with his wife when he fell. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police do not suspect foul play.

NBC Connecticut spoke with a man who was in the 300 sections, not far from where the fall happened. “It was difficult to tell what was going on at first we saw people waving for help, we saw it was a person that fell,” said Justen Hires, of New Hampshire.

Hires said he happened to be facing that direction and saw Kueker during the fall. He said the fall happened in between sets and a flurry of activity began in the sections below after Kueker fell.

There are plexiglass barriers on the 300 level that he believes are about four feet tall. “I want to say maybe 80 or 100 feet down, we were actually just looking over at the area below us right before it happened, kind of commenting on the height,” Hires said.

Kueker’s mom told the New York Post that her son is a person who would give you the shirt off his back. He leaves behind two children.

Goose performed a scheduled show in Central Park on Sunday and said it wanted to bring its community together and provide a space for healing.
