Good Samaritan Killed While Assisting Crash on I‑35W Near Felix Street

Fort Worth police reported that a serious crash occurred on Interstate 35W near Felix Street, just south of downtown, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Friday. One driver involved in the initial collision was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Good Samaritan stops to help

According to officers, another motorist pulled over to assist the injured parties. While the Good Samaritan was providing aid, a passing vehicle failed to stop and struck the helper, resulting in a fatal injury.

Freeway closure and traffic impact

Authorities responded quickly, shutting down all lanes of I‑35W between Seminary Drive and Interstate 20 to secure the scene and conduct an investigation. The closure lasted roughly four hours, causing significant delays for commuters in the area. Northbound lanes reopened around 6:20 a.m., followed by the southbound lanes about twenty minutes later. Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) issued alerts to motorists while the closure remained in effect.

Investigation continues

Police have not released the identity of the person who was killed, and they have not confirmed whether an arrest has been made in connection with the vehicle that struck the Good Samaritan. The investigation remains ongoing, with officers working to determine the circumstances that led to the fatal collision.

Community response

The tragic loss has prompted an outpouring of sympathy from local residents and community leaders, who emphasized the importance of safety and vigilance on the highway. While the incident underscores the risks faced by those who stop to help in emergency situations, officials reminded drivers to exercise extreme caution when pulling over on busy roadways.

Safety reminders

Law enforcement agencies continue to advise motorists to use hazard lights, set up reflective triangles, and remain well clear of traffic when assisting after an accident. The Fort Worth Police Department encourages anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact the department’s traffic division.

As the investigation proceeds, authorities will release further details regarding the cause of the crash and any potential charges. In the meantime, the community mourns the loss of a compassionate individual who gave their life while trying to aid strangers in need.
