Georgia Republicans Choose Collins, Jackson

Georgia Republicans have chosen Mike Collins, a self-described ‘MAGA warrior,’ for the U.S. Senate and Rick Jackson, a billionaire first-time candidate, for governor. This outcome is seen as a mixed result for former President Donald Trump, who had endorsed both Collins and Jackson’s opponent, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones.

Senate Race

Collins, 58, will face Sen. Jon Ossoff, a Democrat, in the general election. Ossoff has made Trump a focal point of his campaign, blasting him as a ‘national embarrassment’ who is using the presidency to enrich himself and his family.

Collins has argued that he has broad appeal and plans to use immigration as a contrast with Ossoff. He sponsored the Laken Riley Act, a 2025 law that requires immigrants accused of certain crimes to be detained.

Governor’s Race

Jackson, 71, outpaced Lt. Gov. Burt Jones after spending about $100 million of his own money on the campaign. He will face Democratic nominee and former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms in November.

Jackson has pledged to deport immigrants in Georgia who are in the country illegally and promises a slew of tax cuts. He has also played up his biography as a product of the state foster care system and featured his grandchildren advising him on how to make friendlier ads.

Trump congratulated Jackson on social media, saying he ‘very successfully campaigned on being ‘TRUMP,’ and won.’ ‘He will be your next Governor of Georgia,’ the president added. ‘Can’t wait!’
