Gateway Technical College in Kenosha is celebrating a major achievement for one of its own. Jeremy Dutton, who has taught at the college since 2012, was presented with the NC3 National Coalition of Certification Centers’ Tormach Instructor of the Year award. The honor highlights Dutton’s dedication to training CNC machining educators at both the technical college and high‑school levels.
Why Dutton’s work matters
The award comes from NC3’s Tormach program, a partnership that promotes high‑quality CNC machining education using Tormach’s line of compact, affordable machines. Tormach, based in Madison, supplies CNC mills, lathes, routers and other equipment that are ideal for classroom and small‑scale production settings. By mastering these tools, instructors can prepare students for well‑paid jobs in manufacturing, a sector that remains a cornerstone of Wisconsin’s economy.
NC3 praises his expertise and heart
“Jeremy’s expertise and attention to detail in CNC machining is a major asset to NC3’s Tormach program,” said Morgan Garvey, NC3 program manager. “He has a genuine heart for teaching and helping others, which is evident to all who are fortunate enough to learn from him. He has been an integral part of the program, and we look forward to many more years of CNC machining with Jeremy as a gifted Master Instructor.”
From campus to the wider region
Dutton began his career at Gateway Technical College on the academic side before moving to the Business and Workforce Solutions division, where he designs and delivers customized training courses. Beyond his regular duties, he regularly travels to other states to train fellow educators through NC3. He emphasizes that his goal is to equip those teachers with practical skills they can adapt to their own classrooms.
“I have a passion to help someone else, to train instructors and teachers, who will then instruct their own students,” Dutton explained. “I like to work with them and figure out how they can adapt the training I provide to their individual classrooms. That’s a great feeling of satisfaction, to know that I’ve helped someone else.”
Impact on Kenosha and surrounding counties
Gateway Technical College serves students and employers across Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties. By offering both academic programs and customized workforce training, the college helps bridge the gap between education and the region’s labor needs. Dutton’s award underscores the college’s role in fostering a skilled workforce that can compete in today’s manufacturing landscape.
