Garland County law‑enforcement agencies announced a major drug‑trafficking bust on Oct. 16 that resulted in 51 arrests and the confiscation of a substantial cache of illegal substances and firearms. The operation, dubbed “Operation Rock Bottom,” was led by the 18th East Drug Task Force with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Scope of the seizure
Investigators reported seizing more than 3.5 pounds of methamphetamine, about 3 pounds of cocaine, roughly 2 pounds of marijuana, 14 live marijuana plants and 5.6 grams of fentanyl. The estimated street value of the drugs exceeds $306,750.
In addition to the narcotics, the task force recovered 15 handguns, five semi‑automatic rifles and three shotguns, bringing the total firearms taken into evidence to 23. Several of the weapons were allegedly in the possession of convicted felons, a violation that carries severe penalties under Arkansas law.
Charges and community impact
The 51 individuals charged face a range of offenses, from trafficking and delivery of controlled substances to illegal possession of firearms by prohibited persons. Prosecuting Attorney Michelle Lawrence emphasized that the operation is part of an ongoing effort to remove drug dealers and illegal guns from the streets of Garland County.
“The 18th East Drug Task Force is working diligently every single day to remove drug dealers from our streets,” Lawrence said. “We will continue to put these drug dealers behind bars to ensure they cannot continue to poison the communities where we live, work and raise our families.” She added that taking firearms away from convicted felons helps make neighborhoods safer for families.
Continuing enforcement
Law enforcement officials indicated that the sweep is part of a broader, sustained campaign against drug trafficking and illegal firearms in the region. Arrest warrants continue to be executed as the task force follows leads generated by the investigation.
Residents of Garland County can expect ongoing collaboration between local, state and federal agencies to keep the community safe. The operation demonstrates a clear commitment to protecting families and upholding the rule of law in Arkansas.
