The Jentel Artist Residency invites the Sheridan community to a free public presentation of its resident artists on Thursday, Oct. 22. From 10:30 a.m. to noon, The Brinton Museum will host a series of short talks and displays that highlight the visual, literary and musical work created during the residency.
Featured presenters
Six artists will share their projects:
- Raymond Hwang, a visual artist from New York, will discuss his recent paintings inspired by the Bighorn foothills.
- Georgia Rowswell, a visual artist from Wyoming, will present a mixed‑media series that explores the region’s natural landscape.
- Anna Egeland, a poet from Washington state, will read selections from her latest collection, which reflects on travel and home.
- Barbara Weissberger, a visual artist from Pennsylvania, will showcase a series of sculptures created during her residency.
- Eric Moe, a composer also from Pennsylvania, will perform a short piece written for a chamber ensemble while in residence.
- Madelin Parsley, a fiction writer from Connecticut, will read excerpts from a novella that grew out of her time in the Bighorn Mountains.
Each presenter will have a brief talk followed by a question‑and‑answer period, giving audience members a chance to engage directly with the artists.
About the Jentel Artist Residency
Founded in 1999, the Jentel Artist Residency offers three‑week residencies to visual artists, writers and composers. The program runs from mid‑January through early December, providing participants with private studios, a shared living space, a private bedroom, and a modest stipend to help cover living expenses.
Residency applicants are accepted twice a year and must work in any visual medium, write fiction, creative nonfiction or poetry, or compose music in any genre. The remote location in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains offers a quiet, supportive environment for artistic development.
How to attend
The event is open to the public and free of charge. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, as seating is limited in the museum’s gallery space. For additional details, visit www.jentelarts.org or call Jentel at (307) 737‑2311.
Jentel’s outreach efforts, such as this public presentation, aim to strengthen the cultural fabric of Sheridan and surrounding communities by connecting residents with contemporary art and literature. The organization hopes the showcase will inspire local families, schools and faith groups to support the arts as a vital part of community life.
