Neighbors in Apex and Holly Springs have the opportunity to learn about the future of the South Wake Landfill, which is nearing capacity. Wake County leaders are weighing options to address the issue, including getting a new landfill, shipping solid waste out of the county, or building a waste-to-energy facility.
Concerns and Options
The increased cost of construction due to inflation makes these potential changes more expensive. Wake County Solid Waste Director John Roberson emphasized the importance of focusing on waste management, stating that it’s essential to know where waste goes and how it’s being dealt with.
Neighbors can take an online survey or attend one of the open house-style sessions to speak with county staff and the landfill study team. The sessions will be held on June 23 and June 25 in Cary and Raleigh, respectively.
