Forest crews will be performing hazardous fuels reduction in the Phillips Canyon area throughout August and early September. According to a recent announcement by Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF), work will begin on the Jackson Ranger District on Aug. 3 and run through Sept. 12, depending on weather.
Contracted crews will focus on 197 acres near the Bonneville Power Administration corridor and west of Fish Creek Road. An area and trail closure will be in effect from midnight to 5 p.m. daily, Monday to Saturday of each week. Portions of the Phillips Canyon Trail and Phillips Ridge Trail will be included in the closure. Arrow and Phillips Pass trails will remain open.
Crews are planning for a phased reopening of trails when it is practical and safe to do so. This work is part of a multiyear effort to reduce accumulated fuel load. Small trees and other vegetation will be removed in an attempt to improve forest health and reduce wildfire risk.
