Fresno and Clovis are home to a variety of breweries, but for those who don’t enjoy IPAs, it can be challenging to find a great spot. This guide highlights some of the best breweries in the area that offer a range of beers beyond IPAs.
Sequoia Brewing Company
Sequoia Brewing Company has multiple locations, including one on Champlain in north Fresno and another in the Tower District. The brewery offers a relatively small menu with a handful of straightforward styles, including a few non-IPAs that are worth trying.
The Peak Pilsner and Thunderhead Amber are two standouts, with the former being a great pilsner and the latter a solid amber ale. However, the atmosphere of the brewery is somewhat lacking, with a weird and dark interior that doesn’t quite feel welcoming.
BarrelHouse
BarrelHouse is a chain with multiple locations, including one in River Park. Unfortunately, the selection is very IPA-centric, with only a few non-IPAs available. The Sunny Daze Citrus Blonde and Cold Brew Nitro Blonde Stout are two options, but they may not be to everyone’s taste.
The atmosphere of the brewery is wide open, with a small patio and a surfer vibe. However, it feels somewhat touristy and lacks a strong sense of identity or community.
