The Freedom 250 mobile museum, one of six traveling exhibits celebrating 250 years of American history, is open for free tours this weekend at Victory Church on the south side of Fort Smith.
A Unique History Lesson
Rachel Ford, a Fort Smith resident, was among the many visitors who explored the exhibit. ‘It’s amazing. It’s one of the best history lessons you could ever get anywhere,’ Ford said. ‘It tells a lot of details that you don’t hear in school and in your history books sometimes.’
State Representative Ryan Rose, who is also the pastor of Victory Church, described the exhibit as a unique opportunity for the community. ‘It’s like getting a piece of a Smithsonian museum right here in the River Valley,’ Rose said.
The exhibit was originally scheduled to be held at the Fort Smith Museum of History but was relocated to Victory Church after the museum’s executive director stated that the event was not part of the non-partisan America 250 congressional celebration.
The Freedom 250 mobile museum will remain at Victory Church in Fort Smith through Sunday, open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Afterward, it will move to the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center in Poteau next week.
