Riversport in Oklahoma City is undergoing a long-awaited upgrade to its rapids facility, with a new pavilion set to be completed before the 2028 Olympics. Chris Sorensen, executive director at Riversport, said the pavilion will offer visitors a unique view of the rapids.
Pavilion Upgrade Details
The pavilion has been in the works for over a decade and was part of the original plan for the Whitewater Center. Budget constraints initially prevented the project from moving forward, but funding from the 2025 general obligation bond will now make it possible to finish the pavilion in time for the games, scheduled for July 20-28, 2028.
Construction is scheduled to begin in January and is expected to be completed by January 2028. The pavilion will provide additional seats and shade, making it an ideal spot for visitors to watch rafting events and enjoy the surrounding area.
