Free Labor Day Concert: Air Force Band of the West Performs in Shreveport

Shreveport‑Bossier families looking for a wholesome way to close out Labor Day weekend have a special treat: the U.S. Air Force Band of the West will perform a free concert on Saturday, Sept. 7, at the historic Shreveport Municipal Auditorium.

The concert marks the first stop on a five‑show tour that will travel across Louisiana and Texas over the next five days. After Shreveport, the band will appear at Spring Hill High School in Longview, Texas (Sept. 8); the Rogers Palmer Performing Arts Center at Tyler Junior College (Sept. 9); Magale Hall at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana (Sept. 10); and finally at the Brown Auditorium at the University of Louisiana at Monroe (Sept. 11).

About the Air Force Band of the West

Based in San Antonio, the Band of the West is composed of 61 professional Airmen musicians who serve as musical ambassadors for the United States Air Force. Their mission is to strengthen community relations, promote esprit de corps, and connect with audiences through music. The ensemble performs for live, radio and television audiences, and its members travel more than 125,000 miles each year, delivering hundreds of free performances for both military and civilian audiences throughout Texas and surrounding states.

“People come to our concerts expecting to hear music, but they leave talking about the Air Force,” said 2nd Lt. Drew Eary, the band’s conductor. “That’s what’s so wonderful about us being on tour, getting to connect with the American public.”

Why This Matters to Shreveport

Free cultural events like this concert reinforce the family‑friendly atmosphere that makes Shreveport a vibrant place to live and raise children. The performance offers a safe, family‑oriented outing that aligns with our community’s values of faith, family, and liberty. Attendees will experience a high‑quality musical program without the cost of tickets, supporting the tradition of accessible arts that enriches our neighborhoods.

Local businesses can also benefit from the increased foot traffic around the Municipal Auditorium. Restaurants, coffee shops, and retailers in downtown Shreveport may see a boost in patronage as families gather before and after the show.

Practical Details

The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Sept. 7. Seating is on a first‑come, first‑served basis, so arriving early is recommended for the best spots. No tickets are required; simply bring a valid photo ID and enjoy an evening of patriotic music, marching band classics, and contemporary arrangements performed by a world‑class military ensemble.

Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate Labor Day with a free, family‑friendly concert that honors both our nation’s service members and the cultural vitality of Shreveport.
