In the latest cable news ratings, Fox News continues to hold the top spot, although it faces challenges in key demographics. According to Nielsen data reported by AdWeek, Fox News averaged 2.299 million total viewers for the week of May 25, with 183,000 viewers in the Adults 25-54 demographic. This represents a 2 percent increase in total viewers but a 12 percent decrease in the key demographic compared to the previous week.
Year-Over-Year Trends
Despite its overall viewership dominance, Fox News has experienced a decline in demographic numbers compared to the same period last year. The network was flat in total viewers during primetime but saw a 24 percent drop in the 25-54 demographic. In total day viewership, Fox News was down 2 percent in total viewers and 26 percent in the demo.
Meanwhile, MS NOW and CNN have shown significant growth. MS NOW’s primetime viewership increased by 23 percent in total viewers and 54 percent in the demo compared to last year. The network also saw a 10 percent rise in total day viewers and a 21 percent increase in the demo.
CNN also reported substantial gains, with a 58 percent increase in total primetime viewers and a 77 percent rise in the demo. During total day, CNN’s viewership grew by 40 percent, with a 41 percent increase in the key demographic.
Top Programs
Fox News continues to dominate the list of most-watched cable news shows, holding 14 of the top 15 spots in total viewers. ‘The Five’ leads with 3.33 million total viewers. The only non-Fox News program in the top 15 is MS NOW’s ‘The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell,’ which attracted 1.194 million viewers.
In the key demographic, Fox News also secured 12 of the top 15 positions, with ‘The Five’ again leading with 285,000 demo viewers. CNN’s ‘The Source with Kaitlan Collins’ and ‘CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip’ also made it into the top 15, along with MS NOW’s ‘All In with Chris Hayes.’
