Fountain’s Southmoor Drive Repaving Nears Completion

The city of Fountain, Colorado, is nearing the end of a long-awaited repaving project on Southmoor Drive. The street, which has been closed since 2020 due to severe erosion concerns, is expected to reopen before the 4th of July holiday.

Project Details

A half-mile stretch of the street, from the American Legion to Paladin Place, has been closed to traffic. The Fountain City Council allocated $450,000 for the project, which included repaving and installing a guardrail along Fountain Creek.

Tracee Spencer, a member of American Legion Post 38, expressed relief that the project is nearing completion. ‘It means that our voices have been heard,’ Spencer said. ‘This has been an ongoing issue for the last six years or so, and it’s caused a burden for the neighborhood and the businesses around here.’

The city saved money on asphalt costs by using a process that recycled the old pavement with new asphalt on-site. Remaining work includes striping and installing a guardrail along the creek.
