Fort Worth police will increase patrols beginning August 1 as part of a 90-day effort to crack down on speeding along some of the city’s most dangerous roadways.

Focus on Loop 820 and Interstate 30

The increased enforcement will focus on the Loop 820 corridor and Interstate 30 during overnight hours from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m. Police said the goal is to reduce dangerous speeding and aggressive driving while maintaining a visible presence on the roads.

“We’re not gonna be hiding. We’re not gonna be waiting behind a bridge, waiting behind somewhere you can’t see us. We want to be visible,” Officer Buddy Calzada said.

The initiative is supported by the North Central Texas Council of Governments, which is dedicating $7 million toward reducing speeding across North Texas. The agency said speeding remains the leading contributor to serious and fatal crashes in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

According to TxDOT, Tarrant County recorded more than 144,000 crashes between 2020 and 2024. Nearly 1,000 of those crashes were fatal, while another 4,300 resulted in serious injuries.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments said speeding accounted for 34% of serious and fatal crashes on area highways in 2025. At the same time, data shows highway fatalities have declined by about 15% over the past couple of years.

“If you would just slow down, or we wouldn’t have to meet you on the side of a road with our emergency vehicles, because you were obeying the law, we’re not gonna pull over anybody that’s obeying the law. We’re looking for those dangerous, aggressive drivers. And those are the ones that are gonna be stopped,” Calzada said.
