A 42-year-old man from Montgomery, Alabama was arrested Sunday night following a vehicle pursuit through Walton County, Florida, that ended with a PIT maneuver and a Taser deployment.
Just before 8 p.m., a Walton County Sheriff’s deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop on a white Mercedes-Benz sedan traveling westbound at a high rate of speed on Highway 98 in Santa Rosa Beach. The driver, identified as Leon Edward Carr, fled from the officer instead of stopping.
Minutes later, a sheriff’s sergeant spotted the vehicle driving southbound on North County Highway 283. The sergeant moved to block the Mercedes from turning back onto Highway 98, but Carr attempted to pull away. The sergeant then executed a PIT maneuver to disable the sedan.
Deputies held Carr at gunpoint at the scene and deployed a Taser moments later before placing him into custody.
Carr was booked on charges of driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a DUI test, fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended license, and two counts of obstruction.
