Fort Worth is rolling out the red carpet for international visitors as it launches a comprehensive transportation plan in anticipation of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The initiative was celebrated with a lively event at Fort Worth Central Station, featuring cheerleaders and band members from O.D. Wyatt High School.
Anette Landeros, chief strategy officer at Trinity Metro, expressed confidence in the city’s preparations, stating, “We have been talking about this. We have been planning for this. We have been preparing.” Trinity Metro, Fort Worth’s transit agency, has been pivotal in developing the plan, which aims to ensure seamless connectivity for the influx of visitors.
Rich Andreski, president and CEO of Trinity Metro, highlighted the significance of the transportation plan, which launched on June 5, just days before the first of nine World Cup matches in Arlington. “Today, we welcome the world,” Andreski said, emphasizing the plan’s role in connecting the region and enhancing the visitor experience.
The plan includes an ambassador corps to assist visitors with transit information, along with expanded bus and train services. Trinity Metro has leased 40 charter buses and added extra trains to the Trinity Railway Express to accommodate the anticipated crowds. Special Cowtown Shuttles will provide expanded service to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and popular shopping areas.
Michael Morris, transportation director for the North Central Texas Council of Governments, noted the extensive planning involved, with over 100 meetings to refine the transportation strategy. “We’ve won nine events, more than any other community in North America,” Morris said, underscoring the region’s commitment to hosting the World Cup.
In addition to logistical enhancements, the transportation plan includes new 911 capabilities with international language support, ensuring safety and accessibility for all visitors. The Regional Transportation Council is also considering funding strategies to extend TEXRail into Fort Worth’s Medical District and Near Southside area.
Monica Paul, executive director for the Dallas Sports Commission, and Mitch Whitten, president and CEO of Visit Fort Worth, both expressed enthusiasm for the city’s readiness to host the world. Mayor Pro Tem Carlos Flores voiced confidence in Trinity Metro’s ability to manage the transportation needs during the games.
As Fort Worth prepares to welcome global soccer fans, the transportation plan stands as a testament to the city’s dedication to providing a memorable and efficient experience for all visitors.
