Fort Worth Independent School District announced that W.A. Meacham Middle School will temporarily relocate after heavy rainfall caused structural damage that rendered parts of the campus unsafe. Superintendent Peter Licata said district facilities staff, contractors and safety teams inspected the building and determined that repairs will require several weeks.
Safety and Continuity Are Top Priorities
“The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority,” Licata wrote in a letter to families, as reported by WFAA. The district emphasized that the temporary move is designed to keep instruction flowing with as little disruption as possible while the damaged sections are repaired.
New Temporary Site
Beginning Tuesday, Meacham students will attend classes at the vacant Briscoe Elementary School located at 2751 Yuma Ave. in Fort Worth. The elementary campus has been unoccupied since the district voted to close the school over the summer, making it an ideal interim location.
Although classes will be held at a different campus, students will remain enrolled as Meacham Middle School students. The district will provide families with updated transportation routes, arrival and dismissal procedures, campus maps and other logistical details. Parents with questions can contact Fort Worth ISD at 817‑814‑1950.
Support for Families
Licata acknowledged that an unexpected school move can be challenging for students and families. “We recognize that a school serves as more than a building. It is a community,” he wrote. The district pledged to support families throughout the transition, prioritizing both safety and continued instruction.
Repair Timeline
Officials said the repairs are expected to take several weeks, and the Meacham campus will not reopen until it is deemed safe and fully operational. No specific return date has been set, but the district will keep families informed as work progresses.
This proactive response reflects Fort Worth ISD’s commitment to safeguarding students while maintaining educational stability, a core value for families who rely on consistent schooling.
