Fort Worth hosts free Homebuyer Fair to boost family homeownership

Fort Worth is taking concrete steps to help families achieve the American dream of homeownership. On Saturday, the City of Fort Worth and the nonprofit Housing Channel will host a free Homebuyer Fair at New Heights High School, 3908 McCart Ave., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Resources for families

The fair is designed to connect prospective buyers with lenders, housing counselors and a variety of assistance programs. Attendees can learn about the city’s Homebuyer Assistance Program, which provides up to $25,000 in down‑payment assistance for eligible buyers whose household income does not exceed 80% of the area’s median income – roughly $88,250 for a family of four.

Housing Channel president Donna Van Ness emphasized that the program can make a real difference. “People who feel like the dream is out of reach can actually attain that dream of home ownership,” she said.

Affordable homes on display

Fairgoers will also be invited on tours of newly renovated homes in the Carroll Park neighborhood of southeast Fort Worth. These homes are listed at about $135,000 and are available to buyers whose household income does not exceed 120% of the median income, expanding options for moderate‑income families.

Credit counseling and budgeting help

Housing counselors on site will work with visitors on credit improvement, budgeting and financial planning. They will also explain how to build credit, manage a budget and save for a down payment. “We can help you build your credit, we can help with budget management and savings opportunities,” Van Ness said.

These services align with the city’s broader goal of fostering long‑term financial stability and generational wealth for Fort Worth families. Homeownership remains one of the most effective ways to build equity and pass wealth to future generations.

County‑wide assistance

In addition to the city program, Housing Channel assists residents in accessing Tarrant County’s Homebuyer Assistance Program, which offers up to $50,000 in down‑payment assistance for eligible buyers meeting the same income criteria. The county program can be used throughout Tarrant County, including cities such as Arlington, Grand Prairie, Hurst, Euless, Bedford, Burleson and Mansfield.

Additional opportunities

For those unable to attend the Saturday fair, Housing Channel will hold a virtual Homebuyer Orientation on Sept. 2 at 10 a.m., and an in‑person session on Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at its offices on Grainger Street. All events are free and open to the public.

By providing education, financial assistance and direct access to affordable homes, Fort Worth is working to ensure that rising prices and higher interest rates do not keep hardworking families from owning a home.
