The Fort Worth Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission held its regular September meeting on Sept. 14, reviewing four separate requests from property owners in historic neighborhoods. Attendance was modest, with most speakers representing individual homeowners or neighborhood associations.
Terrell Heights rehabilitation approved
Commissioners determined that the structure at 1215 Bessie St. in the Terrell Heights district, which suffered a fire earlier this year, retained sufficient architectural integrity to qualify for historic‑preservation rehabilitation. The owners may now proceed with repairs that respect the building’s original design.
Mistletoe Heights garage connection denied
The commission rejected a proposal to attach a detached garage to the primary residence at 2132 Edwin St. in Mistletoe Heights. Commissioners said the current plan conflicted with the neighborhood’s established pattern of setbacks and massing. The owner must redesign the connection to align with historic‑area guidelines before the request can be reconsidered.
Fairmount restoration earns tax‑exemption recommendation
A homeowner at 1608 Fairmount Ave. completed a restoration that meets the commission’s standards for historic preservation. Commissioners recommended approval of the project for a historic‑site tax exemption, which could provide significant property‑tax relief for the owner.
Carver Heights new construction receives conditional approval
The commission gave the green light for a new home at 5504 Mac Arthur Drive in Carver Heights, but attached several conditions. The owner must adhere to specific requirements regarding the building’s distance from the street, porch depth, and the use of approved building materials. Failure to meet these conditions could result in a revocation of the approval.
Next meeting scheduled
The Historic and Cultural Landmarks Commission will reconvene on Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. to consider additional applications and ongoing matters.
