Fort Worth is set to become home to North Texas’ first household-modeled skilled nursing community, The Lodge, which recently broke ground. The community will provide specialized care and rehabilitation services to elders with complex medical needs.
A New Approach to Elder Care
The Lodge is an addition to Stevenson Oaks, a nonprofit community run by Methodist Retirement Communities that provides independent, assisted, and memory-care living for people 62 and older. The new community will feature 24 private rooms and a dining hall, allowing residents to choose their own schedule and menu.
According to Alan Brown, President and CEO of Methodist Retirement Communities, many Fort Worth individuals in need of this type of care are currently in hospital rooms or nursing homes without the freedom to make their own choices. The Lodge aims to change this by providing a more personalized and respectful approach to elder care.
Residents at Stevenson Oaks are excited about the new community, with many expressing their support for the concept of having a home instead of an institution. As one resident, Trish Goller, a retired nurse practitioner, noted, ‘You get to be who you are and not just a number.’
A Focus on Community
The Lodge is not just about providing medical care, but also about creating a sense of community and respect among its residents. The community will allow residents to make their own choices and live life on their own terms, which is expected to have a positive impact on their mental and physical health.
