Fort Wayne Man Convicted of Murder in 2024 Shooting of Damarion Lundy

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — A local jury concluded a two‑day bench trial on Tuesday, delivering a guilty verdict against 21‑year‑old Dairyon McClendon for the fatal shooting of 19‑year‑old Damarion Lundy on Aug. 26, 2024. The trial took place before Allen County Superior Court Judge David Zent, who presided over the proceedings.

Charges and Conviction

McClendon was found guilty on four counts: murder, felony murder, robbery and a handgun enhancement. The charges stem from the incident that occurred in the 4400 block of Winter Street, where Lundy was shot and killed. Prosecutors presented evidence linking McClendon to the crime, including forensic findings and eyewitness testimony.

Prosecution and Investigation

The case was brought forward by the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, with Chief Counsel Tesa Helge and Deputy Prosecutor Rachel Gschwend leading the effort. Law enforcement officials from the Fort Wayne Police Department’s Homicide Division worked closely with the prosecutors throughout the investigation, gathering the evidence that ultimately secured the conviction.

Other Individuals Involved

Authorities also identified another suspect, Donavon Gonzalez, who remains facing charges related to Lundy’s death. Details about Gonzalez’s alleged role have not been disclosed pending further court action.

Sentencing and Next Steps

McClendon’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in Allen County Superior Court. The judge will determine the appropriate penalties for each conviction, including any additional time imposed by the handgun enhancement.

Community Impact

The verdict brings a measure of closure to Lundy’s family and friends, who have awaited justice for more than two years. Community leaders expressed relief that the legal process has held the perpetrator accountable, emphasizing the importance of public safety and the rule of law.

Fort Wayne residents are reminded that the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office and local police remain committed to investigating violent crimes swiftly and thoroughly. The office encourages anyone with information about ongoing investigations to contact law enforcement.
