Formula E, the all-electric series, is working towards having female drivers compete at the championship level within the next two to three years, according to its chief executive Jeff Dodds.

Expansion of Women’s Programme

Dodds announced that the series will soon reveal a major expansion of its women’s programme, which has been focused on allowing female drivers to test the current cars in the same conditions as race drivers.

The new programme aims to create more opportunities for women to get behind the wheel and close the gap with their male counterparts. Dodds expressed his ambition to see women competing alongside elite male racing drivers on the grid within the next few years.

The series has already featured three female competitors since 2014, including Switzerland’s Simona de Silvestro in 2016. The upcoming expansion of the women’s programme is expected to be a significant step towards achieving Dodds’ goal.
