Disney’s biennial D23 event brought several theme park announcements, including updates on previously-announced projects for Walt Disney World and Disneyland.
Magic Kingdom Updates
The new Carousel of Progress will open in late spring 2027, with Jamie Lee Curtis voicing the Mother and Bryan Cranston voicing the Father. New concept art was shared for the “Cars”-themed Piston Peak area, featuring a flat ride called Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin Along and an off-road rally attraction named Ridge Run Rally.
More details were revealed about Villains Land, including that the official name is indeed Villains Land. The area is set in a place where “dark magic” is “up for grabs,” attracting villainous types like Cruella de Vil. The land’s two rides will be a “thrilling coaster” themed around Maleficent’s fortress and a boat ride set in the catacombs under the palace of the Evil Queen from “Snow White.”
Animal Kingdom Updates
The Indiana Jones attraction coming to Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be called Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. The ride will be set inside an ancient Mayan temple and see guests get sucked into the underworld, with giant snakes involved. Harrison Ford will be the model for Indy in this attraction.
A new carousel with 22 unique animal models will be added to the Tropical Americas section, along with the “Encanto” ride, now named Antonio’s Fiesta de Encanto. The attraction will have no height requirement and feature the return of the film’s original voice cast.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Updates
The new “Monsters Inc.” land, called Monstropolis, is under construction. The land will feature a roller coaster called the Door Vault and a theater show called “Welcome to Monstropolis,” including an original song from Randy Newman.
Epcot Updates
Disney is updating Spaceship Earth with “new magic” in every scene, focusing on human connection. The presentation’s final moment announced that the long-rumored update of Journey Into Imagination is happening, with Dreamfinder and Figment part of the new attraction.
Disney California Adventure Updates
New concept art and construction photos were shown for Avengers: Infinity Defense, featuring large set pieces and several Marvel Cinematic Universe actors. The other new Avengers Campus ride, Stark Flight Lab, will also feature Robert Downey Jr. and Brie Larson.
A new “Coco” boat ride is coming to Disney California Adventure, taking place a year after the events of the film, with no height requirement. The original “World of Color” lagoon show will return in February 2027.
