A former Indiana Fever player, Brianna Turner, has come forward with allegations that the team fired a male staff member over sexual harassment allegations during her time with the team. Turner, who now plays for the Las Vegas Aces, made the allegations on social media after Sophie Cunningham defended women’s sports for biological females during an ESPN interview.
Allegations of Harassment
Turner claimed that the Fever instructed players not to discuss the matter publicly after the staff member was fired. She also defended trans inclusion, pointing to former WNBA player Layshia Clarendon, who was born female before later identifying as transgender. Turner stated that there have been no problems with trans athletes in the league, but rather with sexism, misogyny, homophobia, and racism.
The Indiana Fever released a statement in response to Turner’s claims, stating that protecting players and employees and maintaining a respectful workplace is their top priority. The team also stated that they do not comment on personnel matters involving former employees.
