Former Green Bay Packers running back Ahman Green has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Green made the announcement on the “Go Long” podcast with Tyler Dunne, saying he found out about his diagnosis last year.

Green’s Diagnosis

Green had kept his diagnosis close to the vest, with only his closest friends and family knowing for more than a year and a half. He said he didn’t want to share it for a long time, only telling his kids and close family. Now, he’s ready to share how he’s attacking it.

Green has been focused on eating healthy, making sure to exercise and taking his medication religiously. The twitching while sleeping is something Green revealed his wife told him about after he retired in 2009 from the league. He’s now dealing with short-term memory loss as well as sleep walking and talking.

Green’s NFL Career

Green, though, remains optimistic and wants to be an advocate now for those going through a similar situation as him. The Nebraska product began his NFL career as a third-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks, but he became a star at Lambeau Field after being traded to the Packers before the 2000 season.

Green immediately broke out with the Packers, tallying 1,175 rushing yards and 10 rushing touchdowns on 263 carries in his first season. He cemented himself as the bell cow back, and he earned four straight Pro Bowls from 2001-04.
