Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear is putting pressure on Sen. Mitch McConnell, saying the senator is ‘ruining’ his legacy by not being more transparent about his hospitalization. Beshear made the comments on his podcast, stating that McConnell’s legacy is one of overly politicizing everything in the Senate.
McConnell’s Hospitalization
McConnell has been in the hospital since June 14, releasing two statements and two photos with his wife, Elaine Chao. He was admitted to the hospital after falling at his home in Washington, D.C., and was also treated for a mild case of pneumonia. Beshear has been calling on McConnell to prove he’s capable of serving or resigning.
Beshear sent identical letters to McConnell and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, saying McConnell could avoid speculation if he verbally addressed the people of Kentucky. Beshear’s letter to Thune also called for the Senate leader to investigate McConnell’s condition and start the process of replacing him if needed.
