Thirteen alleged members and associates of a Jacksonville-area street gang known as “Slime” are facing federal charges, including racketeering conspiracy, drug trafficking, murder-for-hire, and witness retaliation. The gang operated primarily in the Northside and Oceanway neighborhoods of Jacksonville, and was led by Brian Gregory Brightman.
Alleged Crimes
The indictment outlines a series of violent incidents and drug operations tied to group members, including the solicitation of murder and the distribution of marijuana, crack cocaine, and methamphetamine. The group allegedly used armed violence, shootings, and intimidation to protect its territory and expand into rival areas.
The indictment also alleges that Brightman and other members carried out a murder-for-hire scheme that resulted in the death of an individual, and that they assaulted and robbed others to enforce drug debts.
Investigation and Prosecution
The multi-agency investigation was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, and other local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Rachel Lasry and Kelli A. Swaney for the Middle District of Florida.
If convicted, the defendants face sentences ranging from 20 years to life in federal prison, with several defendants facing the death penalty due to charges involving murder-for-hire and firearms offenses resulting in death.
