The Florida Freedom Tour, a mobile history museum, has visited many communities throughout the state leading up to and through the celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday. The tour features two 18-wheelers dolled up in red, white, and blue, with images of the state’s history.
Local Stops
The repurposed semis will continue to roll into towns throughout the state the remainder of the month, including at minor league baseball games. Patrons will be able to take the tour at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa this Friday and at Publix Field in Lakeland on Friday, July 24.
In between, there will be stops in Lake, Manatee, Sumter, and Volusia counties. The mobile museums will visit all 67 counties by the time the tour wraps up at the end of this month.
Several exhibits highlight the state’s founding to its growth into the third most populous state in the union. Artifacts showcasing everything from Florida’s agriculture, citrus, and military history provide more than a sample of how the Sunshine State has evolved since Ponce De Leon arrived on its shores in 1513.
