A Daytona Beach man faces multiple felony charges after deputies say he broke into his former partner’s Palm Coast home while armed and shot another man during a struggle over the gun early Wednesday morning.
Incident Details
Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in the F-Section of Palm Coast shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Aug. 7 following emergency calls from a woman inside. According to authorities, the woman called 911 to report that an intruder was forcing his way into her residence.
Dispatchers reported hearing the confrontation escalate, followed by the caller stating that the intruder had a weapon. A gunshot was then heard over the call, and the woman reported that a man inside had been shot in the hand.
The caller identified the intruder as 52-year-old John Lyles of Daytona Beach, stating that he fled the scene in a white Mercedes SUV immediately after the shooting.
Arrest and Charges
Lyles was later located and taken into custody. Authorities reported finding a bag of cocaine in his pocket during a search. He was booked into the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility without bond on charges of armed burglary, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony battery with prior convictions, and possession of cocaine.
