Hundreds of runners came together at Mahoney Park in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Tunnel to Towers 5K run, which honors first responders and military members who have died in the line of duty, while also supporting their families.
Honoring the Fallen
The run is held in honor of firefighter Stephen Siller, who ran through the Brooklyn Bridge Tunnel toward the Twin Towers on September 11th, 2001. Director Kalani Baber emphasized the importance of the event, stating that it is crucial to honor those who protect the community and keep it safe.
One runner wore a special number, honoring one of their own who recently died. The impact of the race goes far beyond the capital city, with participants from various parts of the state, including Crete.
Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird and Lincoln Police Chief Michon Morrow paid their respects before the race. The event showcased the strength of the community, with nearly 200 people participating.
