Two Hillsborough County deputies are in the hospital after being ambushed by a suspect. One deputy was shot in the face, and the other was shot in the neck. The suspect, a 34-year-old man, was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The incident began when a woman reported being held hostage by the suspect at a home in Ruskin, Florida. Deputies started monitoring the suspect’s house and confronted him as he attempted to leave. The suspect ambushed the deputies, shooting them immediately.
A third deputy shot the suspect, who later died from his injuries. The two injured deputies were taken to the hospital, where they were recovering. The sheriff’s office said the suspect was convicted in 2023 of tampering with evidence, a felony.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting. The sheriff said, ‘The hand of God was with our deputies here today. Our suspect ambushed the deputies from the moment they arrived.’
