Recent weather conditions in the Four States Region have raised concerns about a phenomenon called flash drought and resultant wildfires. The region has been very dry for more than two weeks, and as a result, flash drought conditions are developing, according to the National Weather Service.
Preparation Steps
For those with homes that could be threatened by wildland fires, the National Weather Service recommends creating defensible space by clearing brush away from your home, using fire-resistant landscaping, and hardening your home with fire-safe construction measures. Additionally, putting together a basic emergency supply kit, planning escape routes, and reviewing insurance policies are crucial steps in preparing for potential wildfires.
In Bowie County, Texas, a 102-acre wildfire called the Chicken Ranch Road fire, about 10 miles northeast of Naples, had been completely contained as of Tuesday morning, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service. Another wildfire larger than 8 acres, about 35 miles west of Texarkana, was contained as of Sunday.
