The investigation, dubbed ‘Operation Innocence Shield,’ has led to the arrest of 10 individuals on various charges, including prostitution and drug-related offenses.
Investigation Details
According to Sheriff Rick Staly, the investigation was conducted in three phases, with the current phase still ongoing. During one phase, investigators targeted people seeking sex through online advertisements, resulting in four arrests. In another phase, undercover detectives responded to online advertisements for sex, rescuing three women who were being trafficked and connecting them with housing, support services, and other resources.
Six people were arrested during the second phase and now face prostitution- and drug-related charges. The rescued women range in age from their early 30s to early 40s. Sheriff Staly stated that the arrests have led investigators to a larger sex-trafficking network, which could result in additional charges.
The sheriff’s office said the operation remains active, and additional arrests are expected. Those arrested during ‘Operation Innocence Shield’ include individuals from Orange City, Jacksonville, Melbourne, and Palm Coast.
