Fever Win Amid Pro-Cunningham Rally

The Indiana Fever secured a 105-95 win against the Seattle Storm on Tuesday night, amidst a pre-game rally in support of Sophie Cunningham’s recent comments on transgender athletes in women’s sports.

Support and Backlash

A small crowd gathered outside Climate Pledge Arena to show support for Cunningham and to promote statewide Initiatives 638 and 011, which aim to bar transgender students from participating in girls’ athletics in Washington schools. Cunningham, who was booed by Storm fans during the game, had expressed her support for such initiatives in an ESPN article.

When asked about the rally and Cunningham’s comments, a Fever public relations representative stated that neither the organization nor Cunningham had any knowledge of the demonstration or contact with its organizers. The team’s focus, according to the statement, remains on winning basketball games and making Fever fans.

Reaction from Coaches and Organizers

Storm head coach Sonia Raman emphasized the importance of creating a welcoming environment for all at Climate Pledge Arena. Heather Weiner, a spokesperson for No Hate in Washington State, found the experience outside the arena to be largely positive, highlighting Washington State’s caring and inclusive nature.
