Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., warned of a constitutional crisis after New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani vowed to defy a Supreme Court ruling that reinforces President Donald Trump’s power to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Syrian migrants.
Constitutional Crisis Warning
Fetterman appeared on ‘Saturday in America’ and cited prior Democratic warnings of a constitutional crisis under Trump. He pointed out that the Trump administration had yet to defy court rulings, and he expressed concern that many members of his party are not calling out Mamdani for his vow to defy the Supreme Court ruling.
The Supreme Court handed the president two immigration-related legal victories last week. In one case, the court held that migrants who are turned away at the border before entering the United States are not entitled to apply for asylum. In another case, the court ruled that Haitian and Syrian nationals in the United States with Temporary Protected Status (TPS) could not receive judicial relief postponing the revocation of their status while they challenge the Trump administration’s efforts to revoke it in court.
