Ferrie Leads Denton City Council Runoff

Unofficial early results show George Ferrie leading the City Council Place 5 runoff race for the city of Denton. According to the unofficial early voting totals released from the Denton County Elections Office website, Ferrie secured 6,345 votes, or 50.07% of the votes tallied so far. Erica Garland received 6,326 votes, or 49.93%.

The Details

The runoff follows the May 2 election, where neither candidate earned over 50% of the initial vote, which led to the two candidates who received the most votes to face off in June. Garland received the most votes with 48.84%, and Ferrie trailed with 47.94%. The third candidate, Caleb Meese, received 3.2% of the vote.

Overall, 15.11% of Denton County residents either turned out for early voting or mailed in a ballot, according to the county’s election website. There are 169,318 registered voters in Denton, according to the county website.

The winner will serve a two-year term and be sworn in June 23. Community Impact will update this article as more election day vote totals are released. All results are unofficial until canvassed.
